St. Patrick’s Day is one of the greenest days of the year – literally! Nearly everywhere you go, you can always find people decked out in their favorite green outfits, sipping on their favorite green drinks, eating their favorite green foods, surrounded by some awesome green decorations. But in addition to these moments, there’s another way that people can show off their green side on St. Patrick’s Day, and we don’t mean by dressing up – we mean by being eco-friendly!
Going Green on St. Patrick’s Day
On March 17th of this year, we encourage you to act in more environmentally conscious ways; here are a few ideas to help you start:
- Instead of purchasing new clothes and accessories to wear during St. Patrick’s Day festivities, take a look at what you already have and see what you can re-use. Or, make something new out of common household items that you were considering tossing in the trash!
- If you’ll be celebrating by having friends and family over for a traditional holiday meal (corned beef and cabbage anyone?), use re-usable plates, silverware and cups instead of plastic products.
- Always recycle beverage cans and/or bottles once they’re empty, both at home and when out and about. St. Patrick’s Day is one where tons of drinks will be handed out, so make sure you do your part when you’re done enjoying!
- Weather permitting, walk or bike to any parade or festival you might be planning on attending. Not only will this reduce your carbon footprint, but it could also save you the major headache that comes with finding a place to park! But if you do need to drive, carpool with as many friends or family members as you can.
