What to do During a Plumbing Emergency

During unexpected moments, it’s not unusual to act quickly without thinking too much. However, when it’s a plumbing emergency that occurs unexpectedly, the most important thing to do is breathe, assess the situation, and figure out the best course of action – that’s because acting too quickly in this case could leave you with an even bigger disaster.

If you ever experience a plumbing emergency in your Orange County home, here’s what you should do:

  1. Shut off the water. First thing’s first – shut off the water to prevent more damage than has already been done. The first place to start would be the water source connected to the fixture or appliance that is giving you trouble, but if that doesn’t work or you can’t find it, you should shut off the main water supply to your home to cut off water all together.
  2. Clear out the area. The next step would be to completely clear out the area that’s been affected. Not only does this give your plumber more room to work with when he/she arrives, but it also helps you prevent damage to any furniture or other household items that could sustain damage if things got extreme.
  3. Figure out the source. If you can, take a look around and see if you can figure out exactly where the problem started. Though your plumber will be able to figure this out, the more information you can provide on the initial call, the better.
  4. Call your plumber. Finally, it’s time to call in the emergency plumbing team! Once the water is turned off and you’ve got the situation under control, the best thing to do is leave the rest to the pros.
