Barker and Sons Plumbing & Rooter is delighted to have been named the recipient of one of three $3.3k scholarship grants, awarded by the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association of Orange, Riverside & San Bernardino Counties (PHCC-ORSB), on behalf of a donation made by Scorpion Internet Marketing. The scholarship grant will be used to pay a lucky apprentice’s way for one year, including the costs for registration, tuition, and required reading materials.
The grant was awarded at the monthly PHCC-ORSB dinner, held on May 23, 2017, at Dave and Busters in Orange, California. We were chosen via raffle, along with two other plumbing companies in the area — Pristine Plumbing and Foothill Plumbing. In order to qualify for the raffle, each company had to have been a Contractor Member with PHCC-ORSB, and an active organization in the 4-Year Journeyman’s Plumbing Training Program.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be given the chance to offer this scholarship opportunity to one of our apprentices,” said Mike Barker, owner of Barker and Sons Plumbing & Rooter and President of the PHCC-ORSB.
This unique training program is designed to give apprentices the opportunity to earn as they learn the skills necessary to become a competent journeyman plumber. The program is taught by licensed and certified industry professionals through a combination of lecture, video, and hands-on lab work. It is supported by the industry and manufacturers, allowing apprentices exposure to the latest practices and equipment.
The 4-Year Journeyman’s Plumbing Training Program is one of the few programs available that walks students through their first four years of apprenticeship, and offers testing upon completion designed to lead them to a Journey-level Plumber Certification.
Mike and the rest of the team are looking forward to another successful year of training the next generation of Barker and Sons plumbers to find leaks, fix plumbing, service sewers, and serve homeowners all over Orange County, California.
