How To Find The Sewer Clean Out (Part 2)

Last month, we introduced the topic of sewer clean outs and provided an overview of what they are and their purpose. To refresh your memory, a sewer clean out is a pipe with a removable cap that gives access into a sewer line so that clogs and blockages can be removed. And since this is such an important component of your plumbing system, it’s important to be able to find it without spending too much time on the search – after all, the quicker you can get to it, the quicker you and your plumber can begin to solve any plumbing problem!

To learn how to find your sewer clean out (if your home is so equipped) on your own, check out the below:

How to find the sewer cleanout

  1. Begin the search by looking for a sewer cap or clean out cap in the front of your yard. As you go, be sure to look under and behind bushes, since these caps aren’t always obvious at first glance. If you still can’t find it, don’t leave the front of your home without inspecting the space near your home’s foundation.
  2. Should your sewer clean out fail to be in your front yard, dedicate some time to checking out the sides of your home. More specifically, take a look at the exterior under and around your bathrooms.
  3. If your sewer clean out is nowhere to be found outdoors, venture inside and take a look around your toilets. Although this isn’t common, there are some homes who have the clean out inside rather than outside.

When it all comes down to it, finding your home’s sewer clean out can be rather difficult, so don’t get discouraged if you can’t find it the first time around – that’s what we’re here for!
