How To Remove Sand From Drain Pipes

Whether you have been going to the beach regularly already this summer or have yet to have your first official beach day, we know there is going to come a point where you spend most of your time covered in sand. And while you may think that the beach itself is the only place where sand lies, it’s important to realize that you often bring some of it home with you too.How to remove sand from drain pipes

That being said, we’d like to remind you that sand can be extremely damaging to your plumbing, which is why it is so important to make sure that you’ve washed it off prior to entering the shower or washing your hands. But if some should make its way down your pipes and cause a clog, here is how you can remove it:

Step 1: Fill up a few large buckets with water – preferably hot water if you suspect that more than just sand is taking over your pipes.

Step 2: Carefully disconnect a portion of the pipe from a designated drainage area to provide yourself with access to the interior.

Step 3: Starting with your hands, manually remove as much of the sand as possible. Then, using the water you collected earlier, pour as much of it into the opening as you can. After the water flushes out the sand the first time, start over to ensure all of the sand has been removed.

Step 4: Using a pressure washer, apply force through your pipes so that any remaining clogs are broken.

Step 5: Once you are done with the pressure washer, use a plumbing snake to break up any clogs that may have been missed.
