Four Of The Best Tips For How To Water Your Lawn

Did you know that April is Lawn and Garden Month? Although you might use each month as a new opportunity to make your lawn and garden look their best, this month in particular is the perfect time to make sure you’re doing absolutely everything you can to achieve success – starting with the way that you water. If you want to have the greenest, healthiest lawn on the block, follow these watering tips:

  • Water in the morning. Even though some homes have their sprinklers on all day long, the best time to water is in the morning. If you water in the middle of the day when temperatures are at their highest, the water can evaporate more easily and thus, your lawn may burn. If you water at night, the water is more likely to stick to your grass, which can ultimately result in disease.
  • Don’t forget shady spots. Although general rule of thumb is that shady lawn areas don’t need to be watered as frequently as sunny ones, you can’t forget about the grass underneath your trees. This grass in particular needs regular watering because it is competing against the tree’s roots for moisture.
  • Use a timer. Contrary to what you may believe, watering for longer isn’t necessarily better for your lawn. That said, you’ll either need to dedicate yourself to watching the clock or use an automatic timer to help you monitor how long your sprinkler is actually on for. Similarly, don’t feel like you need to water every day – just two or three times per week should do.
  • Choose pulsating sprinklers over oscillating ones. If your home isn’t equipped with an in-ground sprinkler system, consider a pulsating, revolving sprinkler. Unlike oscillating sprinklers, water comes out horizontally at a high pace (oscillating sprinklers shoot the water straight up), and thus, it isn’t as susceptible to evaporation and wind.

While you might already have a preferred method of watering your lawn, we bet that if you follow these tips, you’ll be even happier with the results!
