If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to become a little more eco-friendly, you might want to start by conserving water! Not only is it good for the environment, but it’s also a lot easier than you realize.
So to make 2019 the year to conserve water, follow these tips:
Take Shorter Showers
We know, we know, your shower is probably one of your favorite parts of the day — but a long, daily shower could be wasting more money than you realize. To start saving this year, make sure you turn the water on right before you head into the shower —if you cut your shower by just 2 minutes, you can reduce your water use by an estimated 10 gallons! If you are trying to conserve as much as you can — you can also shut off the shower while you’re soaping up.
Shut While Your Brush
There is no need to keep the water running while you brush your teeth, but we often do. When you think about how many time’s a year you brush your teeth, that’s a lot of unnecessary water going down the drain. The little act of just turning the water on to wet the brush and to rinse can make a big difference in water waste.
Do Full Dishwasher Loads
Make 2019 the year you use your dishwasher to maximum efficiency — which means only running a FULL load of dishes. Another great way to stop water waste is to kick your dish rinsing habits to the curb. You may be inclined to thoroughly clean your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher, but this won’t get them any cleaner. Your detergent needs the grime on your dishes in order to clean them thoroughly.
Fix Your Leaks and Drips
Now is the time to get that slowly dripping faucet or leaky pipe fixed. Not only could it cause further damage, but each drip wastes water, and that adds up over time!
